I vividly recall one sunny afternoon many years ago while I was hiking with my father.  We came across a sleepy rattlesnake in the middle of the trail - and I became frightened.

He gently said: "Honey - we're visitors in his house. We need to respect his home. Let's walk safely around and let him go about his business of living."

These words have guided my life since that day.  I was a bit confused at the time - I mean, weren't rattlesnakes horrible? But over time I came to understand the depth of my father's words - we are all visitors on this planet, and if we walk with respect and treat nature as if we are visitors, perhaps we can all live in peace instead of the conquer-all mentality.

This vision for a better world has brought me to an amazing organization - the Sierra Nevada Alliance - and I am asking you to help fulfill a vision of the Sierra that will benefit both natural and human communities.

If successful in our work, the Sierra will have clean air and water. Our forests and ecosystems will be healthy with fewer invasive species. Our wilderness and wild and scenic rivers will remain remote, untrammeled and untamed. Our wildlife will be abundant, diverse, and self-sustaining. Our landscapes and viewsheds will be free of wide spread clearcuts, OHV damage and other practices that mar the ecosystem integrity, scenic beauty and economy of the Sierra.
