The Environmental Consumer needs your help! For a year and a half, we have survived solely on volunteer time and donated resources. Now, to succeed in our mission of helping consumers live environmentally-friendly lifestyles and driving a more sustainable economy, we need your help.

We're looking to raise $1,000 to expand our staff's time on developing innovative databases and tools, money that supports a month's work on programming, designing, and updating our systems. To meet our goal, we're asking for $20 from you to support our work. We keep our overhead low, so your donation will purely support staff time to conduct research, develop software, and build the organization.

Note: Donations are made through the Sierra Nevada Alliance (see last paragraph for more information). Nearly your entire donation (93%) goes to fund The Environmental Consumer, with 7% covering the Sierra Nevada Alliance's overhead in managing our donation infrastructure. The Alliance is a great organization as well, and is only covering costs in this arrangement.

What your donation enables
Your donation will help fund the development of our next tool for consumers to reduce their impact - one that identifies next steps and guides consumers as they make changes in their lives. We intend for this project to become the primary program of The Environmental Consumer and your donations will help fund the ongoing research behind the tool, consumer outreach, system design, and the initial software development.

Accomplishments
We've accomplished a lot with no funding whatsoever, and we can accomplish much more with your donation:

• Developed and launched tool to help consumers quickly write and send letters to 38 major companies.
• Developed and published slideshows related to issues of consumer sustainability.
• Researched and developed database of recycling information in 46 U.S. cities - set to launch late 2010.
• Laid groundwork and infrastructure for future major projects and databases, including recruiting Board of Directors and obtaining fiscal sponsorshop through the Sierra Nevada Alliance.

With your help, by the end of 2011, we intend to incorporate as our own tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, launch our new databases, and have at least one full-time staffer!
